Totally rave, yah!

(Images courtesy of style.com)

Whatever you think of Henry Holland and his ‘posse’ (Pixie, Grimy, Alexa and Harry… say no more) you got to hand it to him, his AW13 collection was perhaps his best yet. This was mainly due to the cocktail glass motif that was weaved in throughout (the drop earrings and embroidered denims were sublime) and perhaps less the term ‘Rave Nana’ that was coined as the inspiration behind it.

However, the mix of abstract prints, fun knitwear, garish colours and punchy jewelled fabrics was something that could not be denied; the boy done good. With the term ‘Rave Nana’ being referenced to describe either a granddaughter raiding the wardrobe of an OAP in 1989 before trippin' to an acid house rave or the female in question, literally being a pill popping, eighty-eight year old. Either way, get involved!

This look is all about sticking to the traditional ‘grandma’ shape of pussy-bow blouses, balloon shoulders, sensible sweaters and full skirts but then puking over it with neon orange, swirls, vintage prints and hi-shine. Chuck a parka over and you're good to go. But just remember; Sunday lunch with your family the next day… and make sure your Nan's not left behind on the M62.

Prada, Prada, Prada!

Having immersed ourselves fully within LFW and all the incredible designers that have exploded onto the cobbles, in and around Somerset House to make London, yet again the most exciting of the fashion week’s… we nearly forgot about our favourite designer of ALL time- Prada!

Miuccia Prada you are the ultimate Fairy Godmother. Just when we let you slip from our mind for a millisecond, you deliver, in outstanding fashion.  The punchy, vibrant use of primary colour, the pop art imprinted onto fun fur coats, the embellishment, the sporty knitted tube socks, the ladylike handbags, the bejeweled bras over structured outerwear- it was a complete mouth to the floor moment. Milan was suddenly in the limelight again and it was all down to you.

With the minimal-faced models strutting down the catwalk like a fierce Sicilian gang; nothing or no-one will be safe from the ultimate control they will have over the fashion world come SS14. Miuccia- sod the pumpkin and Prince, can I have that canary fur number and decorated emerald dress with the Twiggy-esque face sprawled across it. I promise (maybe) to have it back my midnight!

All over the Macarena!

That time of year is here again- to dutty wind with a red stripe in hand and a plastic pineapple under arm with blacked-out shades tightly fixed to face and hair frizzed up in the humidity, all the while smiling ecstatically over the base- Carnival time!

Come Sunday, the streets around Notting Hill will be paved with colour! Music! Shapes! Floats! People! Food (OMG the food!) Visions! Movement! Vibrations! Don’t let the media hype ruin the fun, for Carnival is a time for everyone to come together under the most electrifying atmosphere; to embrace the show, to celebrate the big 'C' ("well cultured babes") and to have, oh yeah, FUN! Of course, what to wear is just part of the charm. Unless this takes your fancy, and lets be honest, if we had it, we'd definitely flaunt it too…

... then we were going to suggest something really stereotypical and obvious to evoke the full-blooded Caribbean flex and then we thought- yep that’s exactly what we are going to do. With the weather looking highly promising it seems there is no other option than citrus bounds of colour, midriffs high, batty riders even higher, with HOJ prints making new friends, (vital) flat shoes and to forget all about work on Monday because it doesn’t exist- for all exists now is this pavement, in which your nose is currently bouncing off. Headdresses are more than welcome, as is a bottle of Morgan Spice and beads; hang beads everywhere, just because it feels good.

There really is no other place in London quite like it. See you at the bus and let the Good Times roll!
