It's just, a little crush...

(Images courtesy of style.com)

From all the daily requests you get on Facebook, it would be near impossible not to be aware of the phenomenon that is, Candy Crush!

Nope, thankfully not the game (seriously, get a life people) but the sweet-as-chocolate-boy hue that graced the AW13 catwalk. With the fashion pack moving on from candyfloss hair (when that bird from X Factor requested ‘pink’ to her hairdresser, you knew it was well and truly done) and has since moved on to become the colour of choice to wear.

We are talking sickly sweet, make the boys wink, PINK! Seen at Moschino Cheap & Chic, Miu Miu, Jonathan Saunders and Carven (that satin ruched number I need, no NEED) is all about femininity with a kick- smashing it,  full on, Chloe Moretz style. From tailored suits with punky-trimmed black and platform creepers, figure hugging and scowling, fluffy and fetish and witchy polka dot- it is the colour in which everyone can find a shade that suits.

And if you can’t, well I’ll join the masses on the morning commute and crush some serious candy.

Utterly, Clueless.

“Do you prefer "fashion victim" or "ensembly challenged"? “ One of many ingenious one-liners from the 1995 parody of Jane Austin’s, Emma that has turned Clueless into a modern-day cult classic! Poking fun at the sorority of Beverley Hills girls who live off Daddy’s wealth, have a revolving walk-in wardrobe, receive a white convertible Cadillac before learning to drive, continually suck a lollipop and go out with the school jock called Brad, has always been fun- throw in a wardrobe like this and you are onto an absolute winner.

The garish colour, the over the knee white socks, the tartan sets, the assortment of hats, the chest, the puppy face, the fun fur, the glossy hair, the braids, the colour code, the brick mobile phones, the driving, the way they hold their school books, hold their pink fluffy pen, fling their handbag when they wiggle off to the swimming pool in the garden, the polo necks, Brittany Murphy's pout (RIP), the incestual relationships… this film is pure genius! Can you believe it is 18 this year? If you take a look at these HOJ gems and the inspiration behind them, it’s hard to imagine that time has even rolled on since that summer in Sweet Valley High.

Mixing and mashing prints with Alice bands, patent platform Mary Jane’s and a neon green threaded tweed jacket thrown over the shoulder- it’s girly, it’s kitsch, it’s OTT, it’s naïve, it’s cutesy, it’s ridiculous, basically it’s a feminists nightmare- and our dreamworld!

I scream, you're outta your mind.

If it’s good enough to lick, it’s good enough to wear- that’s what they say, right?

Whether your favourite temptation of flavour is strawberry cheesecake, peach melba, banana split, minty chip or failsafe vanilla; it’s time to take inspiration from the delectable pastel taste of summer and childhood days gone by. Sitting on the pebbles of Brighton, chilling in London Fields with friends, floating through Brockwell lido or on a roof terrace in Clapton (I’ve heard it’s the place to be) nothing sums up ‘heat wave’ than a good old vintage Cornetto. Now it’s time for your clothes to incorporate the same feel good vibes.

Pastel is incredibly easy to wear as it works with every skin tone- the key is to go a shade or two lighter/darker to complement. Combining a stripe, a pleated skirt, a tie, a crop or faded denim playsuit can keep the look cute yet interesting, whist staying away from garish print and graphic formations to give it a scoop effect rather than twister-y taste. The ice cream hues are perfect when styling with the 1950's cat eye sunnies, rollers under full wrap headscarves, peep toe slingbacks and the must-have curvy behind. Well, with all that sugar to get through, it’s a blimmin’ good job…
