Introducing, Moschino Scott.

(The main man himself, image courtesy of emptylighthouse.com)

Our prayers were answered last week when we heard the fabulous Jeremy Scott has been named as the new Creative Director at Moschino!

The flamboyant American designer, recognised most famously for his collaborations with Adidas, his love of clashing colour and gangster wings whilst mixing futuristic elements with tribal sportswear, will succeed the current CD, Rossella Jardini with almost immediate effect.

Having his designs described as “an example of low-brow culture transformed into high art” with comparisons to artist, Jeff Coons for his love of popular culture; JS may not have been the obvious choice to take over the institutionalised Italian brand. But for the past two seasons the mainline Moschino label has definitely taken on a more fun, tongue-firmly-in-cheek direction with constant themes running throughout the show (the teddy bear snood had KTZ written all over it) as well as the younger, flirtier Moschino Cheap and Chic, which for SS14 included flamingos as their key print (this is why they are our favourite).

It’s as if they knew Mr. Scott was coming on board, to slowly prep the long-time fans of the luxury design house to get ready- for his love of stimulating concepts and abstract designs are about to explode onto an Italian stretched fabric very soon- watch this space indeed!

Autumn, is that you?

Believe it or not, we are halfway through autumn. This mild, clammy (especially when running for the morning train with your newly-purchased fur insulation absorbing you) lukewarm presence that has followed October around like a clingy boyfriend, is set to leave us from today, as the clocks go back and temperatures drop- beloved knitwear, WE AM NOW READY FOR YOU!

Finally, the autumnal wardrobe can make a fabulous appearance. Cashmere capes, novelty sweaters, vintage fluff, full woollen skirts, sheepskin button-ups, cashmere crops, tweed delights and charcoal hues make a welcome return to the most stylish season of the year. The cold (not wet) does not need to mean emotionless dressing- by keeping it layered, accessorised and chunky- both with boots and scarves, will keep the look interesting, varied and rich in substance.

Grab you mate, (fiancĂ©!) or man’s best friend and take a wander around your local… park that is and enjoy the vision of rustic burnt oranges, the scent of burning wood as your next door neighbour sets your fence alight again and the crunch from serenity as you take a slip on something lurking submissively below the leaf carpet…. sometimes the simplest things in life are the most fulfilling.

Show a bit of skin...

As the nights draw in and the temperature (apparently) drops, it’s time for your second skin to come out of hibernation and snuggle itself down over your bare torso. From the warm hues of the leopard and tiger print to its cold, heartless enemy, the reptile scale- the skin in general is having its style moment.

Thanks to Bet Lynch, Kat Slater and those D&G guys for keeping the spirit of the leopard alive and not kicking anymore. Being the easiest print to wear with a furry overcoat number, spiked ankle boots or on a handsome bag, it is a print that never fades. A tad tacky, a little cheap and a lot fabulous, it will keep you hot as Lynch’s fag this season. Tiger is saucy, zebra is a bit of alright too whilst all look marvellous with a bright rep lippy. And remember; animal print will never go out of fashion as the leopard simply never changes its spots.... or so they say.

"He who dares Rodney, he who dares... "

It's hard to believe but it seems Del Boy really is the style icon of choice for this week’s hottest coats! Be it the original, understated champion, ‘The Sheepskin’, the furry and black ‘Panther’ or the print straight out of Trotters Independent Traders,‘The Faux Burbs’. He may be well known for his sovereign rings, flat cap, roll necks and cigars- which we agree, won’t exactly make it onto the catwalk, yet his choice of coats? Pffft, a completely different story!

Camel is the shade of the season; mix it with a hefty vintage and warm sheepskin, a honey-coated fur trim and a cropped suede number and you have yourself an absolute WINNER! The idea is take to take elements of our favourite South Londoner and tweak him into shape with faux fox fur stoles, chunky laced boots and a rich lippy to make it Nelson Mandela House-worthy. Well, Peckham is all the rage at the moment…

I'll take your brain to another Dimension.....

By the time you read this, the HOJ posse will be in Croatia, or more precisely, DIMENSIONS festival, avin' it large in Pula. Clear seas, pumping music, stunning villa, beautiful views surrounding rolling hills, an incredible abandoned fort as a backdrop, love and laughter with friends (you get the picture) can only mean one thing- COLOUR!

Before the nights draw in and the gloom covers us all in negativity and shivers, we need to grab every opportunity like it is our last to inject vitality into the end-of-summer-so-now-want-to-kill-ourself-wardrobe. Whether you have also booked a last minute holiday somewhere warm, ripply and Mediterranean, are off to Bestival or planning to adsorb the rays in your local park; there really is no excuse not to get your vibrant on. You can always add ribbed tights, a pea coat, fur stole and cashmere mittens over the tequila sunrise dress in winter to give Jack Frost a startle on an icy November morning- I think you can call that an investment?

See you on other side! Now pass the calamari down will you...

Limber me up, Jack!

If you thought it was just men that were sexing up the lumberjack trend of late, then think again. Beards may be so hot right now (preferably on a man) but us ladies have all agreed; the check jacket is back!

If like me, one of your favourite musicals of all time is ‘Seven Brides For Seven Brothers’ (ask your Nan) you will understand that it takes a lot for the lumberjack style to be considered sexy. Forget the hefty build, ginger bush and dirty finger nails and go along the more luxury squared, open front jacket route in a range of vivid colours, check sizes and length that have recently exploded onto the House of Jam site. Denim, sheer and leather works perfect, as does contrasting with another check to give that mitchy-matchy, lovely jubbly, vintage take on Derek Lam.

And if you are still not convinced about the level of seduction that lumberjack chic can create, then follow these two God-like words; Ryan Gosling.

Bomb 4 Da Bomb Bomb 4 Da Reload.

How FIT? Yes we have to agree the new drop of vintage silk bombers are sure to cause a huge stir among you all. From skinheads and builders/80's power films to Fresh Prince/ Hip Hop bouncing with Bianca Jackson- it seems the bomber jacket unites us all from every background. With the luxe fabric and rich depth of colour brings us nicely into Autumn with plum and burgundy wine hues, to adopt that love for the 90's that is still very much prominent.
Adorn with crop tees and stomping chunky boots or over one of our many floral tea dresses for a 2013 twist on grunge. Scowl, pout, grimace or goof- whatever your flavaaa is this season, the bomb-bomb-bomber is reppin' it all the way. Well if it's good enough for Grant Mitchell...

Keep your eyes peeled for A/W to drop very soon!

Vibzin'.

She may be the most annoying woman in pop* but even we have to agree Rita Ora looked pretty damn hot on the Sunday at V festival - well of course she did, she totally copied the look from HOJ! (Obviously.)

A sneak peek into the new A/W collection at House of Jam never looked so tantalising with the two-piece again, the star of the show (this black leather trim number is bound to sell out quick so get in there fast.) Worn on a late summer getaway with the boy or taking you through to Bonfire night in November; it’s the diamond duo that will fit in with every situation or date- the word du jour being, ‘layering’.

With Ora flashing (of course she is) the holographic striped Jonathan Saunders number-and some rather spectacular Sophia Webster cutaway thigh-high boots- she may have slightly redeemed herself from that somewhat, horrific monochrome getup she donned up t’north on the Saturday. Stick to the 2-piece Reets, if HOJ are doing it, you know you are onto a winner.

Keep your eyes peeled for A/W stock to drop. We can hardly wait!

*Just as this post went live, Miley Cyrus regained the number one spot.

SpongeClob,(strictly) No Pants.

It's time to straighten those edges and put those curves away, for it's official; the square is the shape of the season. Seen at the likes of Celine, Chalayan, DAKS and Sportmax, it appears the boxier the shape, the straighter you’ll become... in every sense.

Crisp, clean, with a sense of efficiency (no wonder the French fashion houses adore it). By keeping the jacket/shirt cropped, the collar buttoned and tucked in with sleeves ruler straight and wide, it is a no fuss attitude to fashion; a repellent to the colour and print overload that has seen this summer erupt in (no complaints here!)

NEW SEASON ALERT: Always ahead of the game, here at HOJ we have gone on the straight and narrow and immersed ourselves in the trend with these handmade bad boys. Given the seal of approval with the iconic JAM clash of graphics, offers variety for whatever your square needs must- perfect for that difficult transeasonal period when you have no clue what is going on, in life and in clothes. A cropped tee and high-waisted denims are what these shirts are screeching out for; on the other hand, layer it over a midi (must be straight, severely, straight) to channel that Chalayan vibe.

Buy NOW before the curve gets jealous and wants its spotlight back.
